We're not done yet.

As COVID cases decrease, we are hopeful this pandemic will reach its end. Until then, there's still work to be done. Part of that work involves navigating the concerns of getting vaccinated, but unfortunately many of the communities that got hit the hardest are very same communities where trust in the health system is the lowest.

Addressing hesitancy and accessibility barriers for limited income, high risk and underserved families of color who reside in Dane County, Wisconsin has been a twenty seven year journey for the 100 Black Men of Madison (100 BMM).

In order to support and promote the health and wellness while not discrediting their personal level of violated trust due to their experiences and exposures by the health industry in America, the best help we can give to humbly encourage our communities of color is to provide reliable information regarding the vaccine, engage in discussion, and remind them that they are not alone in their decision.

This page will continue to be a resource for community members as we navigate the end of this pandemic. Please scroll below for information regard our efforts and helpful links.

Vaccination race enlists grassroots aides to fight mistrust

"His last job was selling cars, but in his new gig, working to turn the tide against a pandemic, Herman Simmons knows not to be too pushy or overbearing. He’s one of more than 50 outreach workers a Chicago hospital has enlisted to promote vaccination against COVID-19 in hard-hit Black and brown neighborhoods."

In Tuskegee, Painful History Shadows Efforts To Vaccinate African Americans

"A lingering mistrust of the medical system makes some Black Americans more hesitant to sign up for COVID-19 vaccines. It has played out in early data that show a stark disparity in whom is getting shots in this country — more than 60% going to white people, and less than 6% to African Americans. The mistrust is rooted in history, including the infamous U.S. study of syphilis that left Black men in Tuskegee, Ala., to suffer from the disease."

More Black And Latinx Americans Are Embracing COVID-19 Vaccination

"In late 2020, national surveys found that Black and Hispanic respondents were less likely than white respondents to say they planned to get a vaccine. Surveys done in the past month suggest that gap has diminished or disappeared."

When will everyone be vaccinated for COVID-19? Here's how the vaccine rollout is going

"The White House says the U.S. will have enough vaccine supply to cover every American adult by the end of May, although it will take longer to administer those vaccines. That's about 500 million doses, depending on what share of the vaccines require two shots."

WHO: Vaccine inequity becomes 'more grotesque every day'

"According to Oxford University's Our World In Data project, some 500 million doses have been administered, with the United States at 124 million doses and China at 75 million compared to Nigeria and the Bahamas who as of last week had administered 8,000 doses and 110, respectively. By doses per 100 people, Israel led the world with 112.52. Nigeria, with a population of more than 200 million, was at zero and the Bahamas and Vietnam were at 0.03 doses."
